Running Log – Blinded by the Light

Running Log – Blinded by the Light

As we crested up the hill the sun like a wall washed over my face and the song blinded by the light ring in my head. My eyes protected by some cheap sunglasses I decided to bring along with me. I came prepared tonight to do 9 hills and although I felt like giving up a few times I made it through it. The hill running is not just a test of your physical endurance … Read entire article »

Running Log – Up & Downs of Nanaimo

Running Log – Up & Downs of Nanaimo

I was on the Island visiting family and decided to pop in to the local Nanaimo Running Room to see how things were done at that location. It was very different from my other experiences with the local Langley & White Rock stores. They opened a few minutes before the run which left me a bit scrambled to buy some gels for the long 12k run. I managed to get my purchase done and wallet … Read entire article »

Running Log – Take That Hills!

Running Log – Take That Hills!

On Wednesday I totally bonked while doing hills. I woke up this morning determined to finish those darn hills. I made my way to the hill which is just around the corner from where I live and completed it 6 times to make up for the 6 I missed. I feel better now knowing they are done. Do you make up for lost training or just move on? Garmin Distance: 5.62k Total Time: 48:46 Avg Pace: 8:41 /km per … Read entire article »

Barefoot Running Log – Yogging

Barefoot Running Log – Yogging

Tonight our talk was from a local Yoga instructor Mary Moore. She specializes in Yoga for runners and went through some basic Yoga during the talk. I believe Yoga is a good way to stretch and build core strength for runners. The problem I have is that most Yoga places are 1.5 hours and the classes are all to early. If they want to draw in more runners I would do Mon/Fri/Sat nights from 8:30 … Read entire article »

Running Log – Hill Training Equation

Running Log – Hill Training Equation

Over the last few weeks I have been in class studying formula’s and theories. Tonight I learned a new one outside of class which applies to hill training: Gary + Low Carb/Callorie Veggie Diet + Partial Nights Sleep + Hill Training = FAIL Yup I made it to the hill, I did 2 hills and I bonked. I got a cold sweat, my heart was racing. I knew at that point I could not make the remaining … Read entire article »

Running Log – Soggy Chase

Running Log – Soggy Chase

Our group did a modified Chilly Chase route today where we started off at the Langley Running Room and headed out to the LSS track and did the Chilly Chase loop and then back. We were suppose to do 16k today but in the end after doing several loop backs I managed to get over 18k in. The route was relatively flat and easy to do. I decided at the begging to go one minute … Read entire article »

Barefoot Running Log – Olympic Inspired Run

Barefoot Running Log – Olympic Inspired Run

My legs felt great tonight as I ran out the door and hit the pavement. We had a great talk tonight from Olympic Marathon runner Sylvia Ruegger who placed 8th in the 1984 Olympics. She provided a great inspirational talk on how she made it to the Olympics and how she managed to finish the race. She provided some good insight in to how a marathoner thinks and things to keep in mind. One thing she said … Read entire article »

Running Log – Back to the Hill

Running Log – Back to the Hill

After the Green Thumb and the pain I endured I have not run taking 3 days off without any running at all. Today was my first run and my legs felt 100% tonight. I had lots energy and no pain on doing tonight 7 hills. Was great to see lots of people out at the hill who were from my new and old group and others from the marathon group who have perfect form. I … Read entire article »

Running Log – Green Thumb 2010

Running Log – Green Thumb 2010

My 2nd Half Marathon is now completed and one would think you would get faster and stronger as you go on but I finished approximately 15 mins slower then last time. If you had asked my last week what my goal time was in my mind it was to beat my previous time while trying to take a shot at getting under 2 hours. This morning after getting 2 hours of sleep I was convinced … Read entire article »

Running Log – Quick Run Around the Block

Running Log – Quick Run Around the Block

My new group was doing hills tonight and with my Half Marathon a few days away I wanted to save my legs for it instead. I ran with some of my old group and we did a great pace and had fun running. It is interesting to see how much we have grown since we started and how much stronger we are when we run. I am now able to out of the gate run … Read entire article »
