Barefoot Running Log – Olympic Inspired Run

My legs felt great tonight as I ran out the door and hit the pavement.

We had a great talk tonight from Olympic Marathon runner Sylvia Ruegger who placed 8th in the 1984 Olympics. She provided a great inspirational talk on how she made it to the Olympics and how she managed to finish the race. She provided some good insight in to how a marathoner thinks and things to keep in mind.

One thing she said which was interesting was about a tapestry. If you look at one closely on a wall you will see it is made up of various colored threads. The image on a tapestry is made up usually of black threads which see when you view the tapestry from a distance. If you view it up close those black threads are separate and appear to  be random. The tie back to running was that those black threads are like your bad days or runs. It is the bad days that make up the bigger picture and define you as a runner. Next time you have a bad run remember this and think that it is helping you build character.

How do you think a bad run effect your training?
