Running Log – Green Thumb 2010

Running Log – Green Thumb 2010

My 2nd Half Marathon is now completed and one would think you would get faster and stronger as you go on but I finished approximately 15 mins slower then last time. If you had asked my last week what my goal time was in my mind it was to beat my previous time while trying to take a shot at getting under 2 hours. This morning after getting 2 hours of sleep I was convinced … Read entire article »

Running Log – Quick Run Around the Block

Running Log – Quick Run Around the Block

My new group was doing hills tonight and with my Half Marathon a few days away I wanted to save my legs for it instead. I ran with some of my old group and we did a great pace and had fun running. It is interesting to see how much we have grown since we started and how much stronger we are when we run. I am now able to out of the gate run … Read entire article »

Running Log – Milner Park

Running Log – Milner Park

With a week to the Green Thumb Half Marathon we were suppose to take it easy this weekend and according to our training schedule do nothing. I believe in Newton’s Law of Motion in regards to training “an object in motion will stay in motion”. Do you take a week off before a race? Today’s run was good. Large group of people and a new route. Started off good but I got winded going up the hill … Read entire article »

Barefoot Running Log – New Group & New Pace

Barefoot Running Log – New Group & New Pace

Wow what a great run tonight. I always really enjoy my barefoot running more then other nights. Prior to going out a friend said I was crossing my arms in front of me to much and to keep my arm motion to a minimum. I paid very close attention to my form and instead of wasting energy pumping my arms I saved it for my legs. I managed to shave 13 seconds off my pace which … Read entire article »

Running Log – New Group Old Hill

Running Log – New Group Old Hill

I went out with the new group tonight and off they went to Marathon Hill. They had a really face pace but I am use to that so I was able to keep up. The 5 hills went by quick and I was amazed at how many people were at the hill tonight. There had to be 40 or more people running up and down the hill. I would say I knew about half of … Read entire article »

Running Log – Follow the Leader

Running Log – Follow the Leader

I showed up today expecting to run 6k with my group and as the time got closer and closer to the time to go I realized that no one else showed up. The manager of the Langley Running Room (Twila) said she needed a leader for another group and asked if I would lead it. I accepted the challenge and familiarized myself with the route that was given to me. We had to do a … Read entire article »

Running Log – Back to Hills

Running Log – Back to Hills

Instead of doing Fartlek’s tonight we voted to do hills. My calves were sensitivity from running with my Vibram’s from last night so I was able to do 4 hills. Our group has found that doing hills improves our pace and leg muscles more then Fartlek’s do. I am not sure if that is a phenomena everyone has but it seems to work for us. We did our hills back at Pain Hill so now … Read entire article »

Barefoot Running Log – A Different Group

Barefoot Running Log – A Different Group

Week 2 of using my Vibram Five Fingers and wow I can feel the burn in my calf muscles tonight. It is so much fun to run in these and recommend you get  a pair to try yourself. All of my fellow running group members took it easy tonight after the Half Marathon on Sunday and didn’t run. I decided to join the 10k group who was doing 6k tonight with 10’s and 1’s. Instead of … Read entire article »

Running Log – The Historic Half

Running Log – The Historic Half

Today I completed my first ever Half Marathon Race. It was neat to line up with 1000’s of people and pad off into the cold morning sun. The trees still had frost on them and there was a strange fowl smell in the air. I felt good and was looking forward to a great race. I saw lots of my fellow runners from the Langley Running Room. For this race I tried nothing new that … Read entire article »

Running Log – Waredrobe Malfunction

Running Log – Waredrobe Malfunction

Advice given to new runners is to not try anything new on Race Day. You will have lots of temptation to try something new but fight it and here is why. I tried on a new pair of shorts today and tied them up snugly and was sure they would stay up. I made it 1k and then I had to pull my shorts up every 50 meters. What an annoyance it was to have to … Read entire article »
