Running Log – Food for thought

runninglog

We had a great talk from Twilla at the Running Room about various nutrition for runners. Most of it was old hat for me as I have read a lot about nutrition and most of the same things apply. Interesting things to note from the talk are about salt and iron. Most people strive for a sodium free diet. If your a runner then you should eat a normal amount of salt in your diet. There are also some doctors who recommend iron for runners. I suggest you ask your doctor to preform tests before you go out and start taking iron. There are benefits from taking iron but you can overdose on it which can be fatal.

For those trying to figure out an eating schedule they suggest that you eat a big meal 2-3 hours before running and then a small healthy snack 1 hour prior to running.

What do you eat before you run?
