Running Log – Negative Splits
Nope negative splits is not some kind of funky Swedish gymnastics move. It is in a race when you do the first half of the race slower then the first half. That way you finish strong and usually blow past your competitors. There are various ways to do negative splits, for example for the first half of a race you could do 5 and 1’s and then switch to 10 and 1’s for the last half.
Tonight inadvertently we did a negative split. Scott, Mikey and me went out for a 6k run at 10’s and 1’s. After we got back Mikey and I felt like doing some more and went out to do another 6k. The first half we went a pace of 9:57 per km and the 2nd half we went 8:00 per km.
Do you do negative splits when you run a race?
