Advice given to new runners is to not try anything new on Race Day.

You will have lots of temptation to try something new but fight it and here is why. I tried on a new pair of shorts today and tied them up snugly and was sure they would stay up. I made it 1k and then I had to pull my shorts up every 50 meters. What an annoyance it was to have to tug them up as I ran the entire 5k that way. I wasn’t sure why it did that until I got home. I realized then that these shorts had an internal dry weave material in the shorts and that my Under Armour I was wearing were causing them to slip off. Now imagine if you had tried these shorts on for race day and you tried to run the entire thing pulling your shorts up all the way.

If you must buy something for the race then do a quick 5k run to see how the equipment will hold up.
